Comment Rules & Guidelines

NgVoters Community Standards for the Discussion Forum

NgVoters.com welcomes robust, substantive, and good-faith discussion of electoral and political issues in Nigeria. Our comment section exists to enable genuine civic discourse — not to serve as a venue for abuse, misinformation, or disruption.

By registering and commenting on NgVoters.com, you agree to abide by the following rules. Violation of these rules may result in your comment being hidden or deleted, and repeated or serious violations may result in a permanent ban.

What We Encourage

  • Substantive, factual discussion of electoral and political issues
  • Respectful disagreement, debate, and challenge of ideas
  • Sharing of credible information, data, and personal experience relevant to the discussion
  • Constructive criticism of public officials, institutions, and policies
  • Questions, clarifications, and requests for further information
  • Diverse viewpoints, including minority or unpopular perspectives

What Is Not Permitted

Personal Abuse and Insults

Comments that attack the personal character, appearance, family, ethnicity, religion, or any protected attribute of another commenter, journalist, or public figure will be removed. Disagree with ideas — not with people.

Hate Speech and Ethnic Incitement

Content that promotes hatred, discrimination, or violence against any ethnic, religious, regional, or other group is strictly prohibited and will be reported to relevant authorities where appropriate.

Unsubstantiated and Libelous Claims

Posting factual claims about named individuals or organisations that you cannot substantiate, or that are designed to damage reputations without factual basis, is prohibited. We reserve the right to remove any comment that appears to constitute defamation.

Deliberate Misinformation

Knowingly sharing false information — including fabricated election results, fake statistics, doctored images, or deliberately misleading claims — is prohibited.

Spam and Off-Topic Content

Repetitive posts, commercial advertisements, irrelevant content, and comments unrelated to the story being discussed will be removed.

Threats and Harassment

Any comment that threatens harm to an individual or group, or that constitutes systematic harassment of a commenter, journalist, or public figure, will be immediately removed and may be reported to law enforcement.

Obscene and Pornographic Content

Sexually explicit or obscene content of any kind is strictly prohibited.

Impersonation

You may not impersonate any individual, organisation, public official, or media outlet.

Doxxing

Publishing the private personal information of individuals — including addresses, phone numbers, workplace details — without their consent is prohibited.

Moderation

NgVoters moderators review flagged comments and may, at their discretion:

  • Hide a comment pending correction by the poster
  • Permanently delete a comment that violates these rules
  • Suspend or permanently ban a user for serious or repeated violations

Moderation decisions may be appealed by emailing ngvoters@gmail.com with the subject line "Comment Moderation Appeal".

Editing and Deletion

You may edit your comment within 15 minutes of posting. After that window, comments cannot be edited. You may delete your own comment at any time, but a full copy will be retained by NgVoters for archival and moderation purposes.

Accountability

All comments are tied to verified accounts. Your username will be displayed on your comments. NgVoters will cooperate with law enforcement requests where comments raise legitimate legal concerns.
