Publishing Policy

NgVoters Editorial & Publishing Standards · Effective 30 March 2026

NgVoters.com is committed to the broadest possible freedom of thought, expression, association, and political participation — restrained only by applicable Nigerian and international law, and by the ethical responsibilities of a platform that shapes public discourse on democracy.

1. Editorial Independence

NgVoters operates as a fully independent editorial platform. No political party, candidate, government agency, advertiser, or funder exercises any editorial control over the content we publish. Our editorial judgements are made solely in the public interest, on the basis of verified facts and sound journalistic principles.

2. Commitment to Freedom of Expression

We are unapologetic defenders of freedom of expression. We publish opinions, analysis, and commentary across the full spectrum of legitimate political viewpoints. We do not suppress content simply because it is critical of powerful institutions, uncomfortable to read, or contrary to prevailing opinion. We believe democracy flourishes only when citizens can think, speak, and associate freely.

We publish content that challenges government policy, criticises electoral management bodies, questions court decisions, and holds all political actors — regardless of party — to account.

3. Editorial Standards

  • Accuracy: We verify facts before publication. Where we are uncertain, we say so. We do not knowingly publish false information.
  • Fairness: Individuals and institutions criticised in our pages have a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication where practicable.
  • Corrections: Errors are corrected promptly and transparently. Corrections are noted in the article's edit history.
  • Attribution: Sources are identified wherever possible. Anonymous sourcing is used only where safety or other compelling reasons require it.
  • Separation of fact and opinion: News reporting and editorial opinion are clearly distinguished.

4. Sponsored and Advertising Content

Any sponsored or paid content is clearly labelled as such. Advertisers and sponsors have no influence over editorial content.

5. Citizen Submissions

NgVoters welcomes citizen journalism, community reporting, and reader contributions. All submitted content is reviewed by our editorial team before publication. We reserve the right to edit for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with our standards, and to decline any submission without explanation.

6. Privacy and Data

We collect only the data necessary to operate the platform. We do not sell user data. Registration information is used solely for account management and moderation purposes. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

7. Legal Boundaries

While we champion freedom of expression, we will not publish content that:

  • Constitutes criminal incitement to violence or ethnic hatred under Nigerian law
  • Is clearly defamatory of private individuals without public interest justification
  • Violates court orders or constitutes contempt of court
  • Breaches the privacy of private individuals in ways that cannot be justified by public interest
  • Constitutes sedition or treason as defined by law

8. Our Responsibility as Publishers

NgVoters takes its responsibility as a public platform seriously. We believe that a platform which hosts public discourse on Nigerian democracy has obligations that go beyond mere legal compliance. We are committed to maintaining standards of fairness, accuracy, and civic responsibility that make NgVoters a trustworthy space for democratic conversation — even as we fiercely protect the right of citizens to speak freely within those standards.

9. Complaints and Appeals

Readers and subjects of our coverage may submit formal complaints or request corrections to: ngvoters@gmail.com. We will acknowledge all complaints within 5 working days and respond substantively within 15 working days.
